Time seems to be running out for Trillanes and company and once more, we are all glued to our television sets, watching the latest coup drama unfold. A warrant for his arrest is being read at 3:30PM as I write this.
I was in Santa Rosa, Laguna when I first heard the news on the radio that Trillanes and his Magdalo supporters were holed up at the Pen. "What now?" I thought to myself. So all the way back to Manila from a lecture I had just given, I was monitoring the news on the radio and checking if the driver had picked up L and P from their respective schools.
"Sikat ang hotel ni Maning ngayon." I texted a close friend about how our common friend, Mariano Garchitorena, Corporate Communications head of the Manila Peninsula was probably faring in the midst of all of this. "Nakakainis nga itong mga Magdalong ito. Manggugulo na lang, magpapasosyal pa," my friend texted back. Done with Oakwood, maybe next time they'll hit the Mandarin, I wondered.
Back home safe by 3PM, I was releived to see the kids home too. P said that L had freaked out earlier in school. He was so worried that I was in far-away Santa Rosa. "Mom, there was a kid in his school who held up a placard "Jesus is coming" plus he was thinking -- oh no! we just had an earthquake and now war is breaking it out!" My son had just rbeen studying Revelation in his class. He was so relieved to see me when I got home. Sometimes kids can really blow things out of proportion.
The government gave Trillanes a 3PM deadline to surrender and get out of the hotel which has now been emptied of guests. Sayang ang 89% occupancy! It's 3:20PM now. What are they going to do? Shoot a mortar through the Pen? I hope not. Trillanes and company say they will not leave the premises and a group is starting to gather at the Ninoy Aquino memorial in Makati. Plus, the Magdalos have two Catholic Bishops sympathetic to their cause.
Boy, Maning must be having one hell of a nightmare.
Mom was supposed to be at a wedding reception for General Montano's son at the Pen this evening and it looks like my dinner plans for Bellini's will be thwarted.
Abangan ang susunod na kabanata. The coup drama in Manila goes on.

as i read your blog, i pity your kids. hearing the news my wife even suggested that we think of migrating abroad since she don't want children be raise in this kind of environment.
but then again, losing hope for one's country won't do any better.
whew, we can only hope it won't get worse.
Manila Penn must be a mess right now. I wonder why the curfew had to be implemented though. was it that bad?
A, yes, let's just hope that this will be the last and that the government will not go overboard.
Noems, yes and to think that they just renovated the lobby! Will the government pay for that? I doubt it.
