Clockwise - Rosita, Kristoff, Gemma and Oona
I've been home for about a month now and one of the fun-nest things about this hiatus is that I've rediscovered Pinoy T.V. again. Thankfully, there are several entertaining shows worth watching, most of them on the Kapamilya channel. One of my current favorites is the late-night Pinoy Dream Academy.
Okay, so my previous post predicting Rosita Bareng's expulsion fell flat on my face. Hello? In fairness, okay, her performance was good but really, she only got saved because the teachers picked her. Literally, saved by the bell lang siya. HOWEVER... talent is not enough to make it in showbusiness girl. Wala ka pa sa tugatog ng tagumpay you've already got an attitude problem! With the obnoxious behavior she has been displaying the entire week, I'm sure the academy teachers are now scratching their heads in regret over making such a wrong, wrong choice. Big DUH guys.
Hopefully Rosita gets nominated tonight and the same goes for that girl - commitment-phobic Yeng who I think is really just a plain and simple "tease". She is just using the guys to find inspiration to compose music. What a user. If I were spurned suitor RJ, he should just divert his attention to composing songs and focus his ardor on someone more worthy of his salt.
Thank God they haven't put that teacher Von Arroyo back on the tube. They should really replace this guy with someone better. Why not get a legitimate speech teacher from one of the better universities? Better yet, why not get Dr. Ricardo Abad from the Ateneo to teach these kids good enunciation and theater acting? His presence there would surely lend added prestige to the show. Isama nyo na rin sa nomination night mamayang gabi si Teacher Von.
There are bad teachers but there are good teachers as well. Headmaster Jim Paredes is really an ace on the show. His handling of the controversial, angst-ridden scholars is simply wonderful. The fact that he is a father in real-life to two twenty-something talented girls is an important factor. He know the emotional terrain very well. I think his sensitivity towards Jun Hirano is really admirable. Now, Jun Hirano's plight is a lesson for every parent - your child cannot live your dreams for you. It's a good thing that mother and son were able to patch up their differences before this young man returns to his native Japan.
PDA certainly makes an interesting study on the lives of the 20something generation. I would highly recommend this program to parents who have children within the 18-25 age range. You will learn a lot about your child's heart, dreams and aspirations by watching this program. Kahit na hindi pag-aartista ang kanilang pangarap, there's still a lot of lessons you can learn by watching this insightful show - a study in the human drama of the 20something psyche.
